Sun Wukong Shrine, Chinatown - ศาลเจ้าพ่อเห้งเจีย พระราม 4

ศาลเจ้าพ่อเห้งเจีย วัดสามจีน พระราม 4

One of my inspirations or reasons for starting a blog is the good work that JC has done with his “Journey to the West Research” I have learned a lot from the good work he has done.  Check out his site here: https://journeytothewestresearch.com/

In one of his posts he mentions the Heng Jia shrine on Rama 4 road. I have been there a handful of times and on one visit took some pictures to share.    `

It is said that this is the oldest Sunwukong shrine in Thailand.
In 2004 the shrine was blessed with a visit from Queen Sirikit & Princess Sirindhorn.
About five years ago, the interior of the shrine was repainted and beautiful murals were added to the interior walls . I really like them so I took a bunch of pictures of my favorites.

There are many (not cheap) amulets available at this shrine. I have thought about getting one for JC, but from looking at his site, I think he already has a lot of gods and amulets, so instead I got him something very cool and unique, something that I really doubt he has but will make for a good post on his site.

Finally I'd like to add that just like Chinese temples anywhere, the Chinese temples in Thailand are often venues for the distribution of free religious literature. Below is a booklet distributed at this temple containing two common mantras connected to Guanyin. The mantras are given in Chinese script with transliteration given in Thai script.

(the gift I have for JC will probably be much more interesting to many people, but I will save that for him to post about. I share these here because it is something I am interested in and maybe I get some merit for reproducing/distributing these mantras 😀)
